MCDONALD, Ohio (WKBN) — The Village of McDonald rescheduled its annual Christmas in the Village event due to “concerning online statements.”

Police learned about the online comments the afternoon the event was scheduled to take place.

The event will now take place at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

According to McDonald village administration, the event was canceled “out of an abundance of caution” to give the police department enough time to investigate the situation.

Police were able to identify and locate the suspect and have since determined no residents or individuals are under threat.

Investigators say the person who posted the statements is originally from the area but was located in Missouri where he now lives.

“At this point, we determined there’s no imminent threat to anybody in the village,” said McDonald police Lt. Ryan Ronghi. “We consulted with the Niles prosecutor, and we’ll continue to do that and see if there’s any criminal charges that will stem from this.”

Police stress that everything is safe in the village and say people shouldn’t be worried about attending Christmas in the Village on Sunday.
