Mahoning County 4-H leaders say membership is up in the area, but that isn’t stopping them from recruiting new members.
Thursday night, “4-Hers” from all over the county showed off their projects to potential members.
About 100 people gathered inside the Greenford Ruritans Building at the Canfield Fairgrounds for the club’s open house.
Besides animals, there are other interests like sewing, photography and writing. Leaders say the increased interest comes from that variety of things to learn about.
“So a lot of families think we’re just animals, but we have a lot of other projects. Garden projects, we have robotics projects, we have writing projects. We have all kinds of projects in 4-H,” said Beth Smith, a 4-H educator for Mahoning County.
Any child from 5 to 18 years old can join 4-H.
