STRUTHERS, Ohio (WKBN) – A late-night fire destroyed a house in Struthers on Tuesday.

It happened around 11 p.m. at a house on Marion Street, off of Elm Street.

When crews arrived, flames were shooting through the windows and smoke filled the surrounding neighborhood.

“We were having some issues getting the gas line completely shut all the way off. It was getting a lit bit by one of the check valves, so we had them out here. Actually, going to cut the line. That should stop all the gas from going there,” said Jake Giuriceo with the Struthers Fire Department.

The house is a total loss, but firefighters worked to protect the neighboring homes.

There were no injuries.

The fire rekindled Wednesday morning and crews worked to put out hot spots.

The house was vacant but had recently been sold and the new owner had just taken possession of it.

Firefighters are still working to determine a cause.
