BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police are investigating after a break-in at Southern Park Mall where the suspects shattered windows and doors, according to a police report.

The alarm went off just before 11:15 a.m. at Southern Park Mall’s JCPenney in Boardman. Police arrived on the scene to find the east entrance door shattered. More police arrived on the scene and found the north door also shattered.

When officers entered the store, officers found 11 cash registers smashed. They also found three rocks on the ground near the smashed doors. Police said the rocks were probably used to break into the store.

According to a police report, the cash registers were valued at $1,500 each and were not replaceable. Each register also had $200 inside, which adds up to $2,200 in cash loss.

Camera footage from JCPenney’s shows three suspects, dressed in black smash the registers. The video, however, was very difficult to see, according to the police report.

This comes after malls in both Canton and Niles were broken into over the weekend. Lt. John Allsopp from Boardman PD says it’s fair to assume this thefts could be connected.

The investigations into the break-ins are ongoing.
