Investigators say semi actually cushioned driver during Vienna rollover crash

Local News

VIENNA TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A truck driver is expected to be OK after the semi he was driving went off the road and rolled down an embankment Friday morning.

It happened shortly before 9 a.m. in Vienna Township. Charles Greco, 31, of New Castle, was getting off of State Route 82 westbound to get onto State Route 11 southbound. His semi went off the ramp.

Investigators said he actually got out of his truck and walked up the embankment. Greco was taken to the hospital because his arm was hurting.

Investigators said the engineering of the truck cab saved his life.

“He was walking and talking, so he’s lucky,” said Sgt. Michael Wilson, with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. “There was a substantial amount of damage, however, that cab crushed around him and he was lucky for that.”

Greco’s truck was carrying chain link fence, according to Highway Patrol.

The exit ramp to State Route 11 southbound was shut down for several hours. It’s back open now.
