HERMITAGE, Pa. (WKBN) – Police say they have arrested a suspect in a deadly shooting in Hermitage that killed a standout football player.

Zechariah Sewell surrendered himself to investigators at the Hermitage Police Department shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday. He is being held in the Mercer County Jail on $1 million bond.

Sewell is charged with the killing of 24-year-old Charles “Chuck” Carr, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds near a porch of a home in the 2000 block of Shadyside Drive around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Crews drove Carr to the hospital, where he died.

Carr was a former high school football standout at Hickory High School.

Hermitage Police Chief Adam Piccirillo said they were able to identify the suspect as Sewell, 27, of Hermitage. Witnesses had placed him at the scene, according to a criminal complaint in the case.

According to the criminal complaint, witnesses told investigators that Sewell was at the home earlier in the evening and that an altercation took place. Sewell had left but returned because he left his cellphone behind.

At that time, witnesses said Carr and Sewell were involved in a physical fight outside of the home before Sewell pulled a gun from his waistband and shot Carr several times.

Hermitage police checked the area of the Shenango Park Apartments, where Sewell was reported to have lived. They found his Ford Fusion parked behind the building with blood on the center console, according to the complaint.

Sewell is being charged with criminal homicide.

I would also like to thank the surrounding police agencies who assisted in searching for Sewell, including the Sharon and Farrell Police Departments, as well as the Mercer County District Attorney’s Office. I am confident that family and friends of the victim, Charles Carr, are likewise grateful; our thoughts and prayers remain with them in their time of mourning,” said Hermitage police Chief Adam Piccirillo in a statement.
