If government picks Ravenna for missile defense site, it could bring 2,200 jobs

Local News

If Camp Garfield in Ravenna is picked as the host site to the Missile Defense System, the impacts on our area would be enormous.

On Wednesday, the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will hear from an expert on U.S. Missile Defense.

Riki Ellison says at least 1,600 jobs would be created in the construction of the site, which would bring another 300 permanent jobs and 300 support positions.

He says it’s a major national security compound. There are three sites in contention.

“Their ability, I think, to support and man that, to get it under cost and delivered quickly, I think, is better than the other two.”

Ellison says the government has picked a site, it just hasn’t been made public which one it chose.

He says if it picked Ravenna, this would be huge not just for Ohio, but for the security of the entire nation.
