Howland native collecting donations for those affected by hurricane

A Howland Native who now lives in North Carolina is trying to help those affected by Hurricane Florence.

Chris Ochtyun is collecting canned goods and non-perishable items to take back with him.

The 36-year-old came up to this area to avoid the storm but now has to go back.

He works as a nurse at one of the hospitals.

Anyone interested in donating can do so at the Up A Creek Tavern in Howland.

“The stores that are open are letting two people in at a time so everyone doesn’t buy everything up. It’s very much rationed because the only way into where I live is by helicopter or boat,”

The Up A Creek Tavern is on East Market Street in Warren.

Collection is going on right now and lasts until early Saturday morning.
