There’s a group based out of Warren called Veteran’s Haven that finds housing for homeless veterans.
Wednesday afternoon, those running the shelter explained their program to Warren City Council.
Veteran’s Haven has 24 units for veterans at the Riverview Apartments on Warren’s west side, 11 of which are currently available.
Veterans who qualify can live there for free until they graduate from a program aimed at getting them employed and financially independent.
Money for the program comes from Veterans Affairs.
“One, they need to be a veteran, either male or female, that’s an additive to our program. They also have to have an honorable and sometimes even an other-than-honorable discharge. They have to be 50 years of age or older or with a disability,” said Brandi Parker, program manager of Veteran’s Haven.
Veteran’s Haven also now has two units available in Mahoning County.
The city of Warren is working to create what will be called the mayor’s Veterans Advisory Committee to help with veterans and military affairs.
