YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - Youngstown State geology professor Ray Beiersdorfer has passed away.
His wife, Susie, said in a Facebook post that he was at hospice all night and passed away early Thursday morning.
She said she was holding his hand through the night.
Susie thanked the community for their support and love.
Hundreds showed up at a vigil last week to celebrate his life.
Beiersdorfer had been in the hospital since his heart attack in mid-September.
He was not just a professor, but also a leader in the local anti-fracking movement, impacting many people in the community.
