Zachary Crespo suspect in domestic dispute case that sent Beaver Township officer to hospital

BEAVER TWP., Ohio (WKBN) — A suspect has been identified after an altercation that sent a Beaver Township police officer to the hospital late Friday night.

The incident started around 8:30 p.m. Friday in the Highlands Housing development off Old Hickory Court. Police responded to the home there for a domestic dispute, where an officer was injured.

Police confirmed Zachary Crespo is the suspect. He is listed on the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office facing charges of felonious assault on a peace officer and theft- firearm or dangerous ordnance. Police say additional charges may still be filed.

First News spoke with Beaver Township’s police Chief Eric Dattilo and got an update.

He said the officer injured was in what he called an altercation with the suspect, stating that the suspect ran from the scene, and several more departments across both Ohio and Pennsylvania were involved in the pursuit. More than 30 departments responded to the scene.

According to Dattilo, the officer who was injured is at home recovering as of Saturday night.

Several hours later, police say they did make contact with the suspect through the negotiation team. As of now, police are not releasing further details of where the suspect was found.

The conflict ended in what the chief called a “peaceful resolution.”

Dattilo says at times, domestic dispute calls are very dangerous.

“A lot of emotion involved, usually family members and it gets a little crazy, hectic,” Dattilo said. “A lot of times, you’ll see someone that’s calling for help actually turn on them when they get there because it’s their loved one that’s being involved and you’re trying to assist them in that situation. Sometimes it turns ugly.”

Milton Township’s police chief confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody early Saturday morning after a search.
