YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A victim has been identified in the shooting Sunday on the South Side.
According to the Mahoning County Coroner, Daniel Peek, 46, was the man who was shot and died around 12:15 p.m. Sunday.
Bond has been set at $1 million for John Morgan, 45, of Campbell, who was accused of killing Peek. Morgan was arraigned before Judge Renee DiSalvo in municipal court on a charge of murder.
Morgan is accused of shooting Peek in the backyard of a home in the 1400 block of East Florida Avenue.
Assistant City Prosecutor Lucy Baier asked for the $1 million bond, saying that Morgan shot the victim in broad daylight in front of several people, including children.
Reports listed the address for the victim as the home where he was killed.
Reports said when police arrived, Morgan already had his hands up and told police he had a gun in a car in the drive.
Police checked the car and found a loaded 9mm handgun on one of the seats, reports said.
Morgan was arrested after he was questioned by detectives.
Police found the victim lying on the ground outside the home with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police had one house taped off with caution tape Sunday and they were searching in and around several vehicles in the driveway. They also towed away a black Dodge that was in the driveway.
At this time it’s not clear what led up to the shooting.
