YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Crowds gathered at the Covelli Centre on Saturday for prayer and worship at the 10th annual Rally in the Valley.
The free event was put on by the Men of Faith.
“He loves each and every one of us, and he will take care of us,” said Bob Popa, master of ceremonies at the event.
He said this year’s theme was the Anchor in the Storm.
“Not just in the easy times, but in the tough times of your life, Jesus Christ is your anchor and that’s who you need to hang on to,” Popa said.
Duffy Roberts was one of the speakers. He portrayed Paul, dramatizing the letter he wrote from a Roman prison to the people in Philippi.
“And I just want people to feel as though Paul has come to them personally, you know, and engages them. My goal is to look eye to eye with everyone,” Roberts said.
Another speaker was former football quarterback Michael Vick, who spoke about forgiveness.
“We all live different lives, so you can’t condemn certain people for things. All come from different backgrounds, you know, we’re not the same people,” Vick said.
Vick served time for crimes related to running a dogfighting operation and lying about his involvement. Some attendees at the event protested his speech.
It was a non-denominated event that brought various churches in the area together.
“But the key is that we’re here to worship and lift up the name of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ,” Boba said.
