GM Lordstown workers collect hygiene products for Youngstown YWCA

Local News

Some much-needed items were delivered Thursday to the YWCA in Youngstown.

The Women’s Committee for the union at GM Lordstown donated hundreds of personal hygiene products to the center.

The items were collected from workers and their families and brought by the carload to the YWCA.

This is the biggest donation from the Women’s Committee at the union and comes at a time when workers there are struggling with their own futures.

“The only thing we can do is play the cards we have been dealt,” said Pamela Brown, of UAW Local 1112. “We have been blessed to have good products through these years, and I am without a deal not concerned about what the future holds.”

YWCA CEO Leah Merritt said GM Lordstown workers have been historically generous with their time and money.

“There have been good times and not so good times, and they keep on giving, so that’s awesome,” she said.

The GM plant in Lordstown is now down to just one shift.

Brown said no matter what happens, workers there will never lose their spirit to help others in need.
