GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – A man is facing charges after police say he admitted to dressing up the statue of Jesus in front of St. Rose in Girard.
Last Wednesday, St. Rose officials reported that someone has been dressing up the statue. In the latest incident, a person attached a 6-foot-long bo staff to the top of Jesus’s hands, according to a police report.
Police said a suspect, John Huzvar, III, was known to own the same bo staff and was seen walking with it the night prior to the incident.
Police question Huzvar and said he admitted to placing the bo staff on the statue as “a gift to Jesus,” according to the report. Police said Huzvar also admitted to dressing up Jesus in prior incidents.
He was charged with criminal trespass due to a previous incident at St. Rose in May of 2018.
Police said on the same day, Huzvar was also found throwing a hatchet at Kay Lanes’ sign. He told police that he was doing it for fun, according to a police report.
He was also charged with criminal trespass and criminal mischief for that incident.
