A $281,247 grant has been awarded to the Girard Fire Department to hire three additional firefighters and paramedics.
The grant will also ensure the department is appropriately staffed to serve the 9,500 residents in the City of Girard.
“Every day, our first responders put their lives on the line to keep our community safe. It’s important that Congress continues to invest in our first responders and I always offer my support and advocate for increased funding for these types of grants,” Congressman Tim Ryan said.
The funding comes in the form of the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant as part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
