YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A free gas giveaway led to a long line of cars in Youngstown.

Youngstown United as One continued its annual Christmas tradition of giving away free gas. It started this morning at 9 a.m. and ended after an extra $1,000 was given away.

The organization was giving $15 worth of free gas per car but dropped it down to $10 per car after lines grew.

Darrell Jones, president and CEO of Youngstown United as One, said they held this giveaway to help give back to the community during the holidays.

“Gas prices are high now. Christmas shopping, the toys, everything is high, so we just wanna try and help out any way we can so we figured, ‘Hey, let’s help the community by putting some gas in their tank,'” he said.

They ended up giving away $2,000 of free gas in just two hours.

The gas giveaway happened at Mahoning Gas Mart, located at 1564 Mahoning Ave.
