Food truck brings new lunch options for Youngstown students

Local News

Some extra items were on the lunch menu Wednesday at East High School in Youngstown.

A food truck was outside serving items not on the menu but up for consideration.

Students could try them out and share their opinion.

There were a cheesy chicken taquito and a maple syrup turkey sausage, egg and cheese tornado.

Both were tasty, and most importantly, they have already been approved since they fit into the school’s meal pattern.

The students were given a vote on whether they want the items on a regular basis.

“We often, throughout the year, will set up samples with different vendors and do sampling tests and try to get kids involved before we bring something in,” said Director of Food Services Sue Paris. “This is our first experience doing an outside kind of thing. It’s been fun.”

Early votes look good for adding the items, but Thursday, students at Chaney High School will get to try them and cast their votes.

The food truck will spend the next week going to Ohio schools for similar taste tests.
