When fire crews got there, flames were shooting out of the roof

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A vacant apartment building on Youngstown’s south side caught on fire Tuesday morning.

The building is located in the 1300 block of Indianola Ave., near Taft Avenue.

An excavator was brought in later Tuesday morning to tear the building down.

When fire crews first got the call just after 5:30 a.m., flames were shooting out of the roof and there was heavy smoke.

Firefighters had to cut into the roof to get to some of the flames.

Crews had to fight against rekindling fire throughout the morning.

No one was hurt.

Fire investigators still don’t know what caused it.
