Several crews from Sharon and the surrounding area responded

SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) – Several emergency crews converged in downtown Sharon on Thursday.

A fire broke out around 5:20 p.m. in the basement of the Emerald Tablet on E. State Street.

The owner said the business is an herbal apothecary, selling teas, oils, herbs and spices.

Fire Chief Bob Fiscus said it took them some time to run the hoses down into the basement and get to the fire.

“Once we located the fire, it was extinguished relatively quickly. We had to go into the building roughly 150 feet and then move 150 feet back to the front of it. We had to add some additional hoses but everything went well,” Fiscus said.

Fiscus said the damage was limited to what appears to be an electrical room in the basement.

The owner said the store will be closed for a couple of days so they can clean up.

Several crews from Sharon and the surrounding area responded.

The area of E. State Street and Shenango Avenue in front of River Walk Place was blocked for about two hours. It has since reopened.
