Education summit allows state leaders to hear local education concerns

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Local lawmakers held an education summit Friday in Niles.

State Senators Sean O’Brien and Michael Rulli were among those on hand.

They spent time talking about education funding proposed in the state’s two-year budget and how it could impact local districts.

“The most important part is we’re bringing Columbus up to the districts, so Columbus can hear first hand what our problems are. We have the Department of Education with their top people here so they can hear the concerns firsthand and help us draft a legislation, work with our superintendents and solve many of the problems we have here in the Valley,” O’Brien said.

Some of the problems our local superintendents talked about were providing and paying for transportation, and requirements for graduation.
