EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – The East Liverpool community is mourning the death of a local high school student. He was known for his bright smile and his love for East Liverpool athletics.
“He was just so easy to love and I don’t think he realized how easy to love he was,” said Lyndsey Walker.
Walker and Megan Beagle, both family friends, said Kaden Davis was so easy to love.
Davis, an East Liverpool sophomore, passed away early Thursday morning. According to the family’s friends, he fought a hard fight with muscular dystrophy.
“I think people will think back at Kaden, how he never gave up. He never gave up to the end. He fought a hard fight, a hard-fought fight,” Beagle and Walker said.
The East Liverpool City Schools superintendent, Jonathan Ludwig, sent out a press release Thursday morning. He said Davis was known for his love for the school’s athletic department.
“Many of you knew Kaden as the manager of the Potter football, basketball, and baseball teams. In his sophomore year, he continued to contribute both in this athletic capacity and in the classroom as much as possible. He will be forever missed by his extended Potter family,” Ludwig stated.
“I think when most of our community looks back and thinks of Kaden, they’re going to see his smile. They’re going to see him right there on the sidelines supporting everybody,” Walker said.
Walker said that the entire community rallied around Davis, whether it was buying T-shirts that read “Kaden Strong” or attending the benefit dinner a few weeks back. She said everyone is mourning this loss.
“It’s devastating, our whole community is rocked. He was a great kid. He touched so many lives in the short time he was here,” Walker said.
The school district will be offering counseling to students and staff during this time of grief.
The district has also canceled classes for Monday, Nov. 8 for a memorial service. The service starts at 11 a.m. at Potter Fieldhouse located inside the high school.
A memorial scholarship has been created in Davis’ name through the East Liverpool Schools Education and Scholarship Fund.
