YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Tuesday, East High School’s gymnasium was dedicated to Claude W. Bentley, Jr.
Mr. Bentley was a teacher, coach, mentor, principal and dean at East High School. His career spanned more than five decades.
There were about 60 friends, family and coworkers, including his wife and 2 sons, on hand for the ceremony.
Bentley’s legacy will be decorated around the school but will also be a permanent part of the gym floor.
The dedication was MC’d by his youngest son, Jonathan.
“My father’s passion has always been with the people of Youngstown, in particular, the youth of Youngstown, and he put that into East High School,” he said. “East High School has been part of the Bentley family as long as the Bentley family has been part of East High School.”
Before the gymnasium dedication ceremony, the Bentleys gave out $1,000 scholarships to four East Golden Bears.
