YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A lounge in downtown Youngstown was destroyed by fire Saturday.

Heavy flames tore through the SoSo Lounge on North Avenue. The lounge is located near YSU and was a popular spot for live music.

The fire broke out around 1 a.m. and crews were on scene until about 6:30 a.m.

The smoke was so thick at one point it could be seen from 680. It also had a foul odor.

At first, there was just a lot of smoke then the flames shot through the roof.

Firefighters said they couldn’t get access to the second story. They said the owners had taken out the second story a long time ago.

Crews had to use two ladder trucks in order to contain it and keep it from spreading to the F.D. Mason funeral home next door.
