Trumbull County sheriff’s deputies said they found two dogs — one of which had died — that didn’t look like they were being taken care of.
Neighbors said a woman living in the 7300 block of State Route 46 has been abusing her animals. They told deputies that they’ve been going to her house to give the dogs food and water because she “refuses to do so,” according to a report.
One of the neighbors said that on Tuesday just after 7 p.m., one of the dogs was barking constantly.
When the neighbor went over to check it out, he found one of the dogs dead in a doghouse and another that was very unhealthy.
Deputies said the dead dog was so thin, its bones and ribs were showing. They said it was hooked to a short chain about two-and-a-half feet long.
They said the dogs’ water was full of dirt and debris and there was mold growing on their food bowls.
According to deputies, the grass growing in the area was over a foot tall.
They contacted the Animal Welfare League and took the surviving dog there for treatment.
Charges could be filed against the dogs’ owners.
