The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the overdose of an inmate while in custody at the Mahoning County Jail.

According to an incident report, a deputy doing checks in a pod found 34-year-old William Kerensky acting “very lost and talking with slurred speech.”

After further observation, deputies reported that they asked Kerensky if he took anything for which he responded, “Do you want me to tell you the truth? I took a little fentanyl.,” he said, according to the report.

Deputies say Kerensky told them he bought the drugs off another inmate for $20 in commissary money.

While Kerensky was being led to the medical department in the jail, his lips began to turn blue and medical staff had to administer Narcan.

Kerensky was taken St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was treated for an overdose.

The pod where Kerensky was incarcerated was locked down. Every inmate and cell was searched but no drugs were found.
