Family OK, cat and dog safe after fire at Youngstown home

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN)- Everyone is safe, including a cat and dog, after a fire broke out Friday morning at a house on the north side of the city.

Crews were called about 6 a.m. to a house in the 100 block of Halleck Street. When crews arrived, smoke was coming from the back of the house.

According to Battalion Chief John Lightly, the people who live there got out and took their cat with them. Firefighters were able to find and rescue the dog.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the exterior walls, preserving the belongings inside the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
