HOWLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Police confirmed that one man is dead after a crash on Route 82 and Howland Wilson Road in Howland.
Police also confirmed that the crash left three injured, though it is unknown the extent of their injuries.
It happened just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Three vehicles were involved, police say, and one is heavily damaged.
According to police, a Volkswagen Beetle was heading westbound on SR 82. A Tesla was heading northbound on Howland Wilson Road with a Chevrolet Traverse was heading southbound.
Police say the Volkswagen failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and entered the intersection, striking the Tesla. This ejected the Volkswagen’s driver from the vehicle.
The Tesla was force left of center and struck the Traverse.
The ejected driver, Thomas Poole, 65, of Hunstburg, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown where he was pronounced dead.
The Tesla driver, Kelly Barnes of Warren, as well as the Traverse driver, Machael Weblan, and passenger, Cheryl Weblan, both of Warren, were all taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say Poole was not wearing a seatbelt and that impairment is not a factor in the crash.
Traffic was backed up in the area. The road was also blocked off in the area while police and EMTs were on scene.
Howland Township Police, Fire and EMS and Vienna Township EMS all assisted at the scene.
The Warren Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident.
