Community garden opens where abandoned houses once stood in Campbell

Local News

From blight to beauty. A site of Campbell properties that once had abandoned homes is now a community garden.

Tuesday was the grand opening of the “Little Park on Bright Avenue”.

It was a joint effort between the city of Campbell and the Mahoning County Land Bank. They removed an area with three blighted homes and created a small park with a garden in its place.

Campbell Mayor Nick Phillips says it’s the first of its kind and will do wonders for the community.

“They’ll be a garden over there where there will be vegetables growing, you’ll be able to come by and pick and enjoy them. There’s benches here, you’re going to be able to enjoy the foliage and the flowers and stuff that are planted here,” Phillips said.

There’s also a self-serving library in the park that you can borrow books from any time.
