YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Several local businesses are getting ready for fierce competition, and they met Thursday to kick off the contest.
It’s called the Community Cup. Teams faced off for a breakfast at the Youngstown YMCA, which is also the sponsor of the program.
This is the 30th year for the event where colleagues from many different companies form a team and compete in 12 athletic events such as volleyball, bocce and golf.
The event chairperson is Youngstown Mayor Tito Brown, who believes the event creates an attitude of teamwork and pride.
“This is who Youngstown, the Mahoning Valley is – the community aspect. We really come together, we ban together when we need to, but that competitive edge that we have, the resiliency. I think you’ll see it from companies,” Mayor Brown said.
The competition is in August.
