YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – If you drove through downtown Youngstown on Friday morning or afternoon, you may have noticed the long lines to the Covelli Centre.
There was a citywide cleanup event put on by Green Youngstown.
As part of the event, Mahoning County residents who needed to throw away tires could do so for free.
The first 10 tires were recycled for free. Every tire after that was $2.
Although some drivers were waiting for an hour in line, Program Coordinator Jennifer Jones said it’s worth it to keep the city clean.
“Most people don’t know what to do with them. They put them in the garage, they stick them in the backyard, and they pile up. So, the day we’re having today is an opportunity for people to be able to dispose of them properly,” Jones said on Saturday.
Groups of people also went out in the community and picked up trash. As part of the green theme, some people took trees to plant.
Next Saturday at the Covelli Centre is the electronics and appliance drive.
