AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Did you head over to Austintown Saturday to pick up some free stuff? A lot of people did.
On Saturday, the Canfield Rotary Club gave away items, much of it in a big warehouse.
It’s called the “Spring Cleaning Garage Sale Giveaway.”
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., hundreds of people came to Boak & Sons and grabbed what they’d like to take.
It was held at Victoria Road in Austintown.
People started lining up two hours before the doors opened. One woman even said she slept in her car overnight to be the first in line.
This was all to get a chance to look through thousands of donated items, and the could take those items home for free.
Organizers say it just feels good to give back to the community.
“As business leaders in the community, we take from the community. We have to give back to this community. I love the people here, and seeing what they have given us, they love Youngstown as well,” said organizer Sam Boak.
There was everything from furniture to electronics, to clothing and plants.
There were so many items donated that the warehouse restocked ever hour.
Patrons were asked to bring their own box to carry items home, and each group was allowed only one box.
They could spend 30 minutes looking around, then another group of people would come in, and social distancing was enforced.
The only money spent was on optional donations that will go to the Youngstown Salvation Army, Red Kettle or Beatitude House.
