Canfield Fair team to get big chunk of American Recovery Plan money

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – Mahoning County Commissioners are passing out more of the money they received through the American Recovery Plan.

Leaders with the Mahoning County Agriculture Society, which runs the Canfield Fair received a big check for $300,000.

The money will be used to construct a restroom facility at the Event Center, located on the South end of the Fairgrounds. This building will be used as an educational center for youth on the fairgrounds.

“We couldn’t afford that, so we scratched the bathrooms off of it and built the shell of the building and got that done. We’ve been working with that as best we could but without bathrooms, it doesn’t make it very accommodating,” said Canfield Fairboard President Ward Campbell.

Additionally, the building will be used for any future emergency gathering sites, should they be needed, examples of this include mass vaccination clinics and emergency triage centers. The Fairgrounds frequently play host to community events such as food drives, charity races, and fundraisers.

The event center was constructed in 2020 and is in the middle of Phase 2 of a multiphase project.

Commissioners also presented a check to directors with Mahoning County Public Health. A portion of that money will pay for transportation services for lower-income clients.
