A dog at Animal Charity in Canfield is dying from heartworm. Volunteers for the shelter are now asking people in the community to help make the best of her life.

The dog, now named Marnie, was rescued with her two dog siblings on Jan. 30. The dogs were founded chained outside on the -2-degree day. Windchill was estimated at -25-degrees.

Owners of the charity say the dogs were skinny and needed medical care.

Marnie has tested as highly-positive heartworm and has complications. Animal Charity has decided the most humane thing to do is to let her pass away peacefully.

They’ve created a bucket list for Marnie including taking photos with the Easter Bunny and visiting a lake. They’re also asking for the public’s help.

You can help with these bucket list items:

  • Have a birthday party
  • Get Handel’s Ice Cream
  • Educate and raise awareness on protecting other dogs from heartworm
  • Spend the night in a home getting spoiled

To help with this list, call or visit the shelter at 525 Market St. in Canfield.

The shelter is also hosting her birthday party on Sunday, April 14 at their location. They say they’re taking donations of Kong toys and dog treats.
