Boardman robbery investigation

A man was arrested on unrelated charges during the investigation of an attempted robbery in Boardman.

A man tried to rob the Family Dollar on Market Street around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. The robber ran from the scene, according to Boardman Police Chief Todd Werth.

Werth said officers responded to the area and stopped a man matching the description of the suspect near Sami Quick Stop.

Police determined that the man — Marniese Kimbrough — was not the robber, however, he had a handgun with him, according to Werth.

He was charged with having a weapon under disability and carrying a concealed weapon.

Officers are continuing to investigate the robbery of the Family Dollar.

Surveillance video showed the store manager confronting the robber before he was punched in the face and dragged behind the counter. The robber demanded money and the safe, but the manager told him that he would not give him anything and the robber left the store when another customer walked in.

Employees said the robber was in the store the night before and that he tried to steal deodorant. He had tried to steal from the store on other occasions too, according to a police report.
