Robert Boyd was accused of assaulting two young boys and having images of them on his phone

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Boardman man has been sentenced for rape and other sex charges involving young kids.

Robert Boyd, 50, will spend 24-and-a-half years behind bars.

He appeared in court Friday on closed-circuit video from hail for the hearing.

He was originally indicted in 2017 and found guilty of the charges in October.

Boyd was accused of assaulting two young boys and having images of them on his phone. Prosecutors also proved he shared lewd photos of himself and had child pornography on his computers.

“He would message sexualized things to children online, and that was another way he would try to meet kids or see kids in person,” said Mahoning County Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer McLaughlin. “He also had some child pornography on his computer devices. He was truly preying on kids on every level.”

McLaughlin added that they wouldn’t be surprised if Boyd had more victims who couldn’t risk coming forward.

“They were embarrassed by what happened. They were reluctant to talk about it, and I think that now that Robert Boyd is safely in the penitentiary, I think that people will at least rest easy that he is not out,” she said.

For his party, Boyd insists he is innocent and will appeal.
