An intervention specialist at Austintown Middle School has been placed on paid administrative leave while her criminal case is going through the courts.
Amanda Laird faces child endangering and DUI charges as a result of her arrest on March 27.
Police said Laird was driving drunk and left her children, ages 2 and 4, at home. Her 11-year-old son arrived home after officers were on the scene, saying he was at a neighbor’s house, according to a police report.
The school district released a statement on Thursday about Laird’s arrest:
While the incident did not occur on school grounds, components of the Ohio Revised Code suggest her actions could be grounds for disqualification.
Laird has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
