BROOKFIELD TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – “Being a fireman’s the best job there is,” said Captain David Coffy.

After 38 years of service, Captain David Coffy of Brookfield Fire Department is hanging up his hat.

Coffy became a volunteer fireman at the age of 16.

“I was a volunteer for two years, then I got hired on full time at 18. I was still in high school,” he said.

Coffy worked for the Brookfield Fire Department his entire time as a fireman. He said it helped him grow closer to the community.

“Once we moved up here, my stepfather was a volunteer, so he got me on as a volunteer, and the I just progressed on from there,” he said.

Coffy said he has a high appreciation for all fire fighters.

“Not just in Brookfield, just the fire service family, you know. You get to know everybody in this field. You get to be friends with everybody. I’ll miss that,” he said.

Monday was his last day as a fireman in Brookfield. But he plans to continue working as a fireman for the city of Sharon.

“I’ll miss the guys,” he said.
