YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Mahoning County Dog Warden is asking for help from the community after a puppy was found abandoned in the freezing rain Monday evening.
The puppy was found in a crate along Oxford Avenue on Youngstown’s north side around 6 p.m.
The word “Free” was etched across the side of the crate.
The animal will now have to undergo a standard period of quarantine before it can be put up for adoption.
“We want to make sure that it is healthy before we adopt it out. It’ll probably be at least five or six days before we actually look at having the puppy leave our facility,” said Mahoning County Dog Warden Dianne Fry.
Fry wonders if whoever left the puppy outside wasn’t hoping it would be found by someone who was able to care for it. She says it appears the dog was in good health.
