YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The City of Youngstown’s 2022 Christmas tree is now in place.

With city police leading the way, crews hauled the blue spruce from Austintown Tuesday to Central Square.

The tree will soon be decorated, with local businesses getting involved.

“All of the businesses in downtown are going to be participating in a window display contest, which we are really excited as well as the anticipation of December 2nd Light Up Night and Holiday Parad, the first one since COVID,” said Melanie Clarke-Penella, special projects coordinator for Youngstown.

A team from Diamond Steel Construction donated its time and equipment to help workers with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department hoist the tree into place.

The city’s annual tree lighting is set for December 2. The switch will be flipped at the end of the holiday parade.
