A bar in Mercer County is a total loss after a fire tore through it on Thursday.

Crews responded around 3:30 a.m. to the Drawbar and Grille on Hadley Road after an SUV that was parked there caught fire and the flames jumped over to the building.

When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting from the bar.

As crews attacked the fire, the roof of the building began to collapse and interior walls were going up in flames.

“We have all the tin on the roof that fell on the fire and we can’t get to it. We have an excavator in route and it’ll be about an hour before they get here,” said Sheakleyville Assistant Fire Chief Jim Tuchek. “We got two ladders in the air and we are doing the best we can.”

Fire hydrants are more than four miles away, so tanker trucks were brought in. They lined the street, taking turns dumping water into a reservoir.

“We are trucking water from Greenville with a tanker shuttle and we just set up another water supply as we speak for more water,” Tuchek said. “It’ll probably be another couple hours.”

The owner of the SUV that initially caught fire was taken to Greenville Hospital with minor injuries.

Several departments from Mercer and Crawford counties helped out.
