YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - Over a century ago, a group of women recognized a need in the community for a place to age gracefully.
Today, that place is called Paisley House.
Paisley House has plenty of history, starting in 1909 as Home for Aged Women.
"There were business-minded women who got together and wanted a place to retire," said Executive Director Jill Cox.
Now, the facility is looking to fill a variety of positions.
Paisley House has 19 residents. It can hold up to 24.
It needs an LPN to pass medications and complete treatments on the women as well as oversee the work of caregivers.
Paisley House needs more caregivers, as well, to help residents get dressed, get to activities and make sure they eat meals.
They do not have to be state-tested nurse assistants.
"I look for those that are experienced and have a heart for caring for people. I think that's what's special. Our employees have a heart for our residents, and it's like a family here, because it's a smaller place," Cox said.
Each resident has a bedroom in the home along Mahoning Avenue. They also receive some good home cooking.
Ann Purung has worked at Paisley House for 31 years.
The facility is also hiring a dietary aide who can cook.
They are looking for someone who is good in the kitchen, understanding the elderly and their dietary needs, like softer foods.
"It's very good home-cooked food. We're always looking for people to fill that position and maybe bring some new ideas that they have, some recipes that they'd like to share with our residents," said Cox.
Paisley House also has a choir that goes out and sings to the community. Cox said it's a special place with a family environment and plenty of history.
"It's because you know you made a difference in their lives in those years. We made it great for them. We made it a living kind of environment."
Paisley House is located at 1408 Mahoning Avenue, across the street from Fellows Riverside Gardens.
You can apply for all of these positions in person.
