CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) - Ask any mechanic their dream jobs and it's working on a John Deere, Cummins, Caterpillar or maybe a Waukesha.
A Canfield company is offering all of those models and a successful career.
Joe Gear was troubleshooting and fixing a generator when Jobs Now stepped inside Professional Engine Systems in Canfield.
Gear is a former machinist, who then worked on boats, before becoming a generator technician.
“If you have the basic skills to work on a car and some electrical abilities, you can work on a generator with some training,” Gear said.
Professional Engine Systems needs more generator technicians to handle a growing work log. Owner Bill Hendricks said they will handle the training for the person who has a foundation.
“We are looking for somebody who has the fundamental understanding of electricity, able to follow wiring diagrams. At that point, we have factory training available to get the technical end of it,” he said.
Generators are common at hospitals and nursing homes, also police and fire stations. WKBN 27 First News also has one to keep our signal from going out.
Generators need to be operated regularly, have the oil, hoses and batteries changed on a regular schedule. When you're dependent on it, you want to make sure it's ready to roll. Technicians keep them running.
“It’s cold, they’re freezing, they have no power, we come in and 99 percent take care of the problem. If not, we bring in a generator and have them up and running until we do fix the problem,” Gear said.
Technicians can make calls alone, or work together on bigger jobs.
Professional Engine Systems take cares of its customers, and meets their needs, but it's also taking care of its employees with paid holidays, paid vacation, health insurance, even a 401k program, all in a relaxed atmosphere.
“We are not Corporate America. We are not pushing the overtime, not stressing the employee out. We like to keep them Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Professional Engine Systems also has a job listing for a mechanic on natural gas and diesel engines.
You can apply in person at 495 W. Main St, Canfield or send a resume to email@example.com or fax to (330) 533-5235. See job listing at proengine.com.
