CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – It’s been 32 years since a fire burned down most of the historic Idora Park, except for the carousel, which is now in Brooklyn, New York.
Idora Park was on the south side of Youngstown and was open from 1899 to 1984.
Toni and Jim Amey are the owners of the Idora Park Experience. It is a collection of artifacts from Idora Park on display at the their home in Canfield.
“They would get to see Wildcat cars from Idora Park, a lot of original Idora Park artifacts, Jack Rabbit cars, Caterpillar, Tilt-a-whirl,” Jim said.
There is a $5 admission fee and the owners are asking people to use the gravel road to enter through 4450 S. Turner Road. They also suggest bringing change to play the games.
The exhibit is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
“It was amazing. It was a big asset to Youngstown at the time and it’s a shame that it closed down because people used to come up here from Canton. They have Hoover Sweeper Day there and they had a lot of kid days where you paid 3 cents for rides and it was just amazing,” said former Idora Park employee John Costello.
Costello spent his Saturday at the Idora Park Experience celebrating his 80th birthday.
