LORDSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – WKBN 27 First News confirmed the General Motors plant in Lordstown will be down for three weeks in March.

The plant’s downtime will be during the weeks of March 13, 20, and 27.

It’s taking the time to align Chevy Cruze production with market demand.

This news comes three weeks after GM eliminated the third shift at Lordstown because not enough people are buying small cars.

President of UAW Local 1714 Robert Morales said workers are uneasy. From here, they’re striving to meet GM benchmarks for production.

“We’re going to position ourselves in the future to, if another product comes along, we could raise our hand and say, ‘GM, we’re doing what we need to do and look at us maybe for that other option,'” Morales said. “Also, we want to be prepared if the market does switch back to small cars so that we can just keep on running.”

He’s hoping sales pick up so there won’t be more down time later this year.
