LIBERTY, Ohio (WKBN) – Father Stephen Popovich served a morning mass to start off the 3rd annual Fall Festival at the Liberty Healthcare Center Sunday morning.

Tons of people came out to see the priest give mass and to celebrate the coming of fall. The plaza was filled with food, vendors and games.

Popovich said that on this 15th anniversary of 9/11, it’s important to memorialize those who lost their lives by celebrating them and living life to the fullest.

“Amidst the difficulties in life too, we have to get up and keep going, obviously our country has done that and I continue to do that,” he said.

Popovich was critically injured in a car accident last November. He was on his way to the Ohio State Penitentiary to minister to inmates when his car collided with a pickup truck and was pushed into a tree, paralyzing him.

Popovich is the former pastor of Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New Middletown.

He is currently making great strides in his recovery.
