(WKBN) - Residents in the district have voted against the West Branch earned income tax proposal.
The West Branch Local School District proposed a .50 percent earned income tax with intentions of raising money for the school district.
The district had a similar tax once before in the 1990s but it is no longer being collected.
It was previously stated that If the levy fails, the district will move to pay-to-play sports. The district has already cut teachers, programs and administrators.
The school currently faces a debt of $850,000. The district says the tax would have generated that same amount annually over the next five years.
