NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Steve Mientkiewicz won the Democratic nomination for Niles mayor.
He defeated Jimmy DePasquale, getting nearly 70% of the votes, according to unofficial returns.
A committee chose Mientkiewicz to replace retiring Tom Scarnecchia as mayor last summer and serve out the rest of his term.
George Kuriatnyk, who appeared on the May ballot but withdrew, also wanted to be mayor and applied last summer, but was not chosen.
Before becoming mayor, Mientkiewicz served on City Council.
His top three priorities are fiscal responsibility, blight removal and community reinvestment.
At this point, no one is set to challenge him in November.
