Wednesday was the filing deadline for the May 7 primary in Ohio, and some of the more interesting races are in the cities of Youngstown and Niles.
Former Youngstown Law Director Marty Hume and current Law Director Jeff Limbian will run the Democratic Primary for Municipal judge.
Also in Mahoning County, multiple candidates are running for Youngstown and Struthers council seats and Struthers mayor.
Issues in Mahoning County are mostly renewals, except for West Branch Schools.
In Niles, incumbent Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz is being challenged by former Service-Safety Director Jim Depasqual and George Kuriatnyk. All three are Democrats.
Also in Trumbull County, Doug Franklin is running unopposed for Warren mayor, two Democrats are running for Warren law director, James Melfi is running unopposed for Girard mayor and two Democrats are running for Hubbard mayor.
As far as Trumbull County issues, there will be 10 tax renewals on the ballot and four additional levies.
In Columbiana County, no candidate races are contested and there are several big tax issues — all are new money requests except for Beaver Local Schools.
