Why should you be elected
I am running for Treasurer because I want to make a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of Ohioans. As Treasurer, I will lead with the experience and knowledge gained from a strong finance-based education, a successful career in the private sector and public policy expertise at the local and state government levels. From the opiate addiction crisis to our crumbling infrastructure, I believe that the Treasurer can be a leader in promoting innovative financial solutions to tackle some of our state’s greatest challenges. Before earning my MBA with an emphasis in finance and owning my own investment consulting business, I worked for Ernst and Young where I advised companies world-wide on complex financial matters. I served as Treasurer and Auditor for my hometown of Findlay where I learned firsthand the intricacies of local government operations and helped the city improve its credit rating and lower its debt service costs. As State Representative, I served on the House Finance Committee, chairing the budget subcommittee dealing with one of the largest sources of state spending. With the full support of my wife and five children, I have spent the past two years traveling the state, introducing myself to people and sharing with them my values and my innovative vision for the Treasurer’s Office. I look forward to continuing to earn the trust and support of Ohioans and to serving with honesty and integrity as Ohio’s next Treasurer of State.

Top priorities
I encourage readers to visit SpragueForOhio.com/vision to find a more detailed overview of my plans for the Ohio Treasurer’s Office which include: expanding the scope and capabilities of Ohio’s Online Checkbook, improving financial literacy programs to curb student loan debt and bridge the skills gap, expanding the STABLE Account Program and promoting public private partnerships to overhaul our aging infrastructure.

One area in particular I will focus on is the standardization of social impact bonds (SIBs) to help fight the opiate epidemic, infant mortality and other societal ills. SIBs foster partnerships between the public and private sectors, where the private market develops new programs, but the public sector only pays if the new programs can be proven to deliver results. This innovative financial tool will bring the private sector to the table in a meaningful way and introduce a new funding stream to the effort to tackle Ohio’s most pressing problems.

Robert Sprague is running for Treasurer of State and will bring the type of ethical, innovative, problem-solving leadership to the office that Ohioans deserve. As Findlay City Treasurer and Auditor, Robert balanced city budgets and helped finance a massive recovery effort after historic floods and the 2008 economic crash ravaged the city. Robert also helped Findlay improve it’s credit rating, lower its debt service costs and created the city’s first annual financial report to help people better understand city finances. As a State Representative, Robert’s district sits along the I-75 corridor that was first to feel the pain of heroin and opioid addiction and overdoses. Robert responded; he led the effort in the Ohio House, working with law enforcement, church leaders, and doctors to fight back against the epidemic years before it became national news.

In Columbus, Robert led like a Conservative should: he eliminated an $8 billion budget deficit, passed a $5 billion tax cut, sponsored the amendment to eliminate Ohio’s ‘death tax’, and ended the rules and regulations cramping job creation. Ohio has now created 450,000 new jobs and counting.

With global experience in private investment and management consulting, a degree from Duke University and an MBA from the University of North Carolina, where he graduated 7th in his class, Robert’s professional experience and qualifications for the office of Treasurer of State are unparalleled.

Robert currently resides in his hometown of Findlay with his wife, Amanda, and their five children, Cole, Davis, Graham, Tate, and Mary Hannah. They are members of Gateway Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
